Homestead Updates: Thrift Store & Estate Sale finds
Hello my friends,
Zach and I have been going to estate sales and thrift stores more frequently in search of Christmas gifts and things for the house, and over the past couple of weeks, we have found some really fun stuff that I would love to share with you.
First of all, I am excited to say that I have started a new nursing job that will be hybrid-meaning half my time at home and half in person that I am so, so, so extremely excited for. I feel like this is the job that I have waited for and I’m so glad that I got it. Literally, my dream job! I will be the instructor of a Certified Nursing Assistant program in Rochester! It combines my two loves: education and nursing and I am so pumped.
With that new excitement and being able to work from home more, I needed to have a dedicated work space. We currently have an office that Zach uses everyday, so I decided to take the spare bedroom downstairs and set up a desk in there for me. I found this unbelievably perfect antique desk that was $50 on Facebook Marketplace. People, are you shopping on Facebook Marketplace!? If you aren’t, you need to be!! There are so many free or reduced price items and they are STEALS. I love purchasing new items too, don’t get me wrong, but to create the “lived in” aesthetic that we love to show in our home, you just need to buy used. And let’s be honest, sometimes newer furniture is made out of cheap materials and will not hold up to the test of time.
I am very excited to use this space and have the opportunity to spend more time at home with Zach and Dexter. COVID spoiled us because we got to spend so much time at home and I realized how much I missed spending most of the days at home with my boys. Taking a full time job away from the home was such an adjustment and not the right fit for our family. I am so thankful to be able to “shop around” and find a job that will work better for our lifestyle.
In addition to the desk, I scored the most beautiful lamp for the office. I have always loved tiffany-style lamps because they add so much character and color to a room. I found this one at an estate sale for $30 and I immediately fell in love!
Lastly, we found some vinyl records that were perfect for Christmas and loved playing them when we decorated the house. Zach has been collecting vinyl since he was a kid and he has created quite the collection. Also, while shopping at Good Will, I found a Duluth Trading skort and a Madewell top that were $8 a piece. I looked up these two items on their respective websites and the total cost for the outfit would have been around $100 and I paid $16! Pays to shop second hand. :)
I would love to share the other finds, but they are Christmas presents and I don’t want to ruin it!
Happy thrifting people!
Cheers,
